Actress Pranitha Subhash on Monday shared a picture of herself observing Bheemana Amavasya on Instagram. In the picture, she can be seen bowing down to her husband’s feet.
“Offering puja on the occasion of Bheemana Amavasya this morning. To you, it may be a show of patriarchy (from what I saw last year, with meme pages etc debating this), but to me, it holds great significance,” Pranitha said.
“In Sanatana Dharma, most rituals have a story to back why it is significant. And to argue that Hindu rituals are patriarchal is completely baseless as it’s one of the few faiths where female Goddesses are worshipped equally,” she further said.
She also shared the post on Twitter and Facebook.
The actress had also shared a picture last year on the occasion of Bheemana Amavasya, for which feminist and left-liberal trolls had attacked her and called her a victim of patriarchy.
Reacting to the trolls, she had told ETimes, “Just because I’m an actor and the field is known for its glamour, does not mean that I cannot follow a ritual. Well, everything in life has two sides. But in this case, 90% of the people had a good word to say. The rest, I ignore.”
In Karnataka, Bheemana Amavasya is observed by women, who pray to God Shiva and Goddess Parvati for the well-being of the menfolk in the family. Married women pray for their husband’s longevity and prosperity, while unmarried girls pray to get a virtuous husband.
