The Bihar Assembly on Thursday approved a hike in quotas for EBCs, OBCs, SCs and STs from the existing 50% to 65%.

Bills providing for the same in educational institutions and government jobs were passed unanimously through voice vote.

As per the bills, the EBC and OBC quotas will be 25%, and 18%, respectively. For SC, the quota will be 20%, up form 16% while for ST, the quota will be 2%, up form 1%. The 10% quota for EWS will remain the same.

Earlier on Tuesday, the state cabinet had cleared the proposal to to increase quota from 60% to 75%.
