The Centre on Monday justified the termination of three officers of the Indian Air Force (IAF) for gross negligence and told the Delhi High Court that the accidental firing of a BrahMos combat missile into Pakistan last year affected the relationship with its neighboring country along with a loss of Rs 24 crores to the state exchequer. Opposing a petition by Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma against his termination, the Centre in its affidavit said the trial of three officers by a court martial was “inexpedient”, especially considering the sensitive nature of evidence on record.
