Responding to the US administration’s decision to provide cluster munitions to Ukraine, Russia on Saturday said the step bring humanity closer to a new world war.
“Washington continues to “raise the stakes” in the conflict with persistence worthy of some better application. The deep involvement of the US in the conflict in Ukraine, even without cluster munitions, has never been in doubt. However, the current level of US provocations is really off-scale and brings humanity closer to a new world war,” Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said when asked to comment on the US administration’s decision to provide cluster munitions to Ukraine.
“The United States is so obsessed with the idea of defeating Russia that it does not realize the gravity of its actions. They only lead to more casualties and prolong the agony of the Keiv (Ukraine) regime,” he added.
“The brutality and cynicism with which Washington has approached the issue of handing over lethal weapons to Kiev is striking. The administration has completely ignored the points made by experts, human rights activists and lawmakers about the inhumanity of such a step,” Antonov further said.
