Israel’s ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan on Tuesday held a card showing the phone number of Islamic terror group Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s Hamas office at a UN General Assembly meeting, telling member nations to call him if they wanted a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
“You want a real cease-fire?” Erdan said, admonishing UNGA members to ask him (the Hamas leader) directly as he held up a sign depicting Sinwar’s office phone number.
“Call… and ask for Yahya Sinwar. Tell Hamas to put down their arms, turn themselves in, and return our hostages. This will bring a complete ceasefire that will last forever,” Erdan said.
“During today’s emergency meeting in the @UN General Assembly on the Israel-Hamas war, Imade clear to all the ambassadors before the vote: if you want a real ceasefire, call the Hamas offices in Gaza and ask for Yahya Sinwar. Tell him that when Hamas lays down its weapons, turns itself in and returns all the hostages, then there will be a real ceasefire that will last forever,” Erdan said in a post on X.
Ambassador Gilad Erdan was opposing the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution was supported by 153 nations including India and was opposed by 10 countries including the US.
