The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu government not to summarily reject requests for live streaming of Ram Lalla’s ‘pran pratishtha’ (consecration ceremony) in the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, as a PIL said the state government has banned it.

“This is a homogenous society, do not prevent only on this ground (that there are other communities),” the Supreme Court told the Tamil Nadu government during Monday’s hearing.

The apex court has also asked that the state government to maintain data of the applications received and decisions taken.

Meanwhile, the state government told the top court that there is no ban on holding screenings of the ceremony or holdings special poojas or bhajans on the occasion.

The decision comes after BJP on Monday moved the Supreme Court as an urgent matter for hearing against the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government’s alleged order banning the live telecast of Lord Ram Lalla’s ‘pran-pratishtha’ (consecration ceremony) in the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya on Monday, at temples and other public places.
