Congress leader and former governor of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Mizoram Aziz Qureshi made derogatory comments about Hinduism while targeting some Hindu party leaders. In a viral video, the Muslim politician said –
“Some party leaders chant ‘Jai Ganga Maiya’, ‘Jai Narmada Maiya’; this is shameful.”
“They (Congress leaders) take out (Hindu) religious processions, say ‘Garv Se Kaho Hum Hindu Hai (Say with pride that we are Hindus)’, install murtis (idols) in party offices; this is shameful and akin to dying,” the Muslim politician further said.
The Muslim politician said he is not scared of being expelled from the party for his stand.
While BJP hit at the Congress for Qureshi’s statements and called it a party of ‘Chunavi Hindus’, Congress distanced itself from his remarks.
“It’s his personal opinion. The Congress believes in secularism and cannot subscribe to what has been reportedly said by him (Qureshi),” Congress’ KK Mishra said.
No action has been taken against the Muslim politician for his derogatory comments against the Hindu faith yet.
