On Thursday night, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an excise policy-linked money laundering case, reports said.

The arrest came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to Kejriwal from any coercive action by the agency.

Soon after the high court order, an ED team reached his residence and carried out searches. Subsequently, he was arrested.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has moved to the Supreme Court for quashing the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. “We have moved the Supreme Court for quashing the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, by ED. We have asked for an urgent hearing by the Supreme Court tonight itself,” Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi said in a post on X.

The ED had issued nine summons in two separate cases, including alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board and the excise policy case. Kejriwal was instructed to appear before the agency. However, he consistently skipped all summons, contending that they were “illegal” and politically motivated.
