Recently, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to one Salim booked under sections 3/5/8 of the Uttar Pradesh Prevention Of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955 on the condition that he shall deposit Rs.10,000/- in the account of Gau Seva Aayog within a period of one month from his release.
Salim has been charged with cow slaughtering and smuggling under the act by the UP police.
“..coupled with the fact that he is languishing in jail since 30.09.2022, thus without commenting on the merits of the case, I find it a fit case for bail. Further, the applicant is ready to deposit Rs. 10,000/- in the accounts of Gau Seva Aayog,” the bench comprising Justice Shree Prakash Singh stated while granting bail to the accused.
The accused Salim’s counsel submitted before the court that, he has not been named in the FIR and was not arrested on the spot and his name came to light, only on the confessional statement of coaccused persons. Further, it was submitted that in case he is granted bail, he will not misuse the liberty and would cooperate in the trial proceedings. He also agreed to deposit 10K in the account of UP Gau Sewa Aayog.
The Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Lucknow, representing the state, opposed the prayer of the bail.
Earlier, in June, the Allahabad High Court while granting bail to Saleem alias Kaliya, also booked under the same Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, directed him to deposit ₹1 lakh in favour of any registered Gaushala and to serve cows for one month.
