External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met the family members of former 8 Navy officials who were handed down death sentences by a court in Qatar.
“Met this morning with the families of the 8 Indians detained in Qatar. Stressed that Government attaches the highest importance to the case. Fully share the concerns and pain of the families,” Jaishankar said in a post on X on Monday.
“Underlined that Government will continue to make all efforts to secure their release. Will coordinate closely with the families in that regard,” the EAM added.
Earlier on Thursday, a court in Qatar handed down the death penalty to eight former Indian Navy officials who have been detained in the country for over a year.
The eight naval veterans are Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Verma, Captain Saurabh Vasisht, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, and Sailor Ragesh.
