Twitter is updating its user interface (UI) to provide a more refined experience for users. The first part of this “larger UI overhaul” includes allowing users to swipe between recommended and followed tweets using left and right swipe gestures. It is not yet known if this design change will be available to all users or if it will be a targeted rollout. In addition, long-form tweets are set to be introduced in early February, as per Elon Musk.

Twitter currently offers two different ways for users to view tweets: “for you,” which shows recommended tweets, and “latest,” which displays the most recent tweets from accounts the user follows. According to Elon Musk’s tweet, the company is not removing these options, but is simply improving the interface by allowing users to view the latest tweets from followed accounts or recommended tweets by swiping left or right. The “for you” and “latest” options will still be available.

Twitter already uses left and right swipe gestures to allow users to switch between Twitter lists, which are collections of tweets from various accounts. Twitter lists can be helpful for users who want to follow tweets about specific topics or from accounts they are not following, without the need to follow multiple accounts individually.
