The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on November 2, 2022, said that the retired Karnataka High Court judge Justice H N Nagamohan Das is anti-Hindu and urged the government not to have him in any committees going forward. HJS Karnataka spokesperson Mohan Gowda in a video statement was reacting to the report of Justice H N Nagamohan Das Commission on SC/ST reservation, which blamed the emergence of Vedic philosophy for social inequality and the caste system. The report blamed the Brahmins, Upanishads, and Hindu epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana for social inequality and the caste system.
“This is wrong interpretation. He has insulted our holy scriptures”, Gowda said while saying that HJS will not tolerate the insult of Hindu scriptures.
“Lord Sri Rama was not only a benevolent king, but also a harbinger of equal opportunities to lower caste people. There is a reference in Ramayana that he appoints a ‘Nishad’ person as king. He takes the lead in picking and appointing this Nishad person. How can Justice Das misrepresent facts in his report”, Gowda said.
Gowda said that Justice Das has the habit of insulting the Hindu religion and Hindu deities. “He has, time and again, insulted our gods, goddesses, and scriptures. All practicing Hindus must condemn this unequivocally,” Gowda said.
“He (Justice Das) even released a book titled ‘Imran Khan Ondu Jeevanta Danta Kathe’ (Imran Khan, a living legend) authored by Sudhakar SB. How can he agree to release a book that glorifies our enemy country (Pakistan)?
The launch of the book based on the life of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan which was scheduled on October 27 in Bengaluru was canceled after the local Hindu organizations’ opposition.
“Government should take steps to identify all such persons and stop them from giving misquoted reports”, Gowda said while asking the state government to not appoint people like Justice Das to any committees.
The July 2020 report of the Commission was recently accepted by the BJP-led Karnataka state government. The report led to the hike of reservations in the state for the SC/ST communities from 15% to 17% and 3% to 7% respectively in October 2022. This took the reservation tally in Karnataka to 56%, above the 50% cap fixed by the Supreme Court in the Indira Sawhney judgment.
