Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on September 12, 2022, accused the Congress-led Rajasthan government of being insensitive towards cows and not being serious about the lumpy disease that caused their death. He said:
In Rajasthan, thousands of cattle have died due to lumpy skin disease. More than 10 lakh cows are affected due to this disease. The infection is not stopping even after efforts are being made at the administration as well as at the local level.
He added:
The government is not worried about protecting the cows. It looks like the protection of cows is related to Hindu dharma so the government is not focusing on it. Most of the time, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan is busy in Delhi. This is the politics of appeasement, it shows their Islamic thinking.
Rathore further said that the BJP-ruled states of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh have successfully achieved control of the spread of lumpy disease. He said:
The Centre has made a vaccine to protect the cow from lumpy disease, but the government has not even made a policy on how to get the vaccination done.
The union government on September 12 said that since the outbreak of the disease in July 2022, 67, 000 cattle have died so far due to the lumpy disease. Jatindra Nath Swain, Secretary, department of animal husbandry and dairying said in a statement:
In Rajasthan, the number of death is 600-700 per day. But in other states, it is less than 100 in a single day.
He added:
States are currently using the ‘goat pox’ vaccine to control lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle
Swain had earlier informed a week ago that out of the 57,000 reported deaths of the cattle, around 37,000 were reported in Rajasthan.
