Gigi Hadid’s summer vacation encountered a series of setbacks as the renowned supermodel faced legal troubles during a recent trip to the Cayman Islands. On July 10, as Hadid embarked on a girls’ getaway to the picturesque destination, she found herself in an unexpected predicament, with her arrest at Owen Roberts International Airport. A spokesperson from the Cayman Islands’ Customs & Border Control confirmed this development to media.
Hadid, accompanied by a friend, arrived at the airport via a private plane. However, their arrival took an unfavorable turn when customs officials conducted a search of their luggage discovered marijuana in their possession, as relayed by the aforementioned spokesperson.
Cayman Marl Road, a local news outlet, reported that following the discovery of the illicit substance, Hadid and her companion were promptly arrested on charges of suspected importation of ganja and importation of utensils used for the consumption of ganja. Subsequently, they were transported to the Prisoner Detention Center. However, both individuals were released on bail shortly thereafter.
A court appearance took place on July 12, just two days after their arrest. During the proceedings, Hadid and her companion entered guilty pleas in response to the charges leveled against them. The Border Control spokesperson confirmed that both individuals were fined $1,000 as part of the sentencing.
The incident has shed an unwelcome spotlight on Hadid, a prominent figure in the fashion industry. Despite this unfortunate episode, it remains to be seen how this event will impact her professional endeavors and public image in the future.
