On Friday, a Lord Shiva procession was attacked in the Thasra area in Gujarat’s Kheda district. At least 10 people, including a sub-inspector, were injured. The incident occured at around 3 pm in the afternoon and the injured comprised the sub-inspector and two constables.
As per reports, stones were pelted from a Madarsa when the Hindu devotees were taking out the procession from the area. When the procession reached the Teen-batti area, a group of Islamists launched an attack by pelting stones and bricks at the Hindu procession. Hindus taking part in processions were forced to abandon the yatra mid-way and flee.
The traditional ‘Shobha yatra,’ which is conducted every year from the Shiva temple on the final day of the auspicious ‘Shravan’ month, witnessed a participation of 700-800 devotees this time, according to Kheda SP Rajesh Gadhia.
Gadhia added that an adequate police force had been deployed in the region and that additional officers had been called in from neighbouring divisions.
