A Varanasi court on Friday granted additional time of eight weeks to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to complete the scientific survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure and submit its report.
The court dismissed the Muslim side’s objection and provided additional time to the ASI.
Earlier, on September 2, the ASI sought eight more weeks to complete the ongoing scientific survey of the disputed Gyanvapi premises and submit its report.
The Allahabad High Court on August 3 upheld a Varanasi district court order and ruled that the step is necessary in the interest of justice and will benefit both the Hindu and Muslim sides.
On August 4, the Supreme Court refused to halt the ASI survey. Taking on record an undertaking made on behalf of the ASI that no excavation would be done at the site and no damage would be caused to the structure, the apex court allowed the survey to take place.
