One student named Himank Bansal of the ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad was thrashed by some other students of the institute and was forced to chant ‘Allahu Akbar’ for his remarks on Islamic history. The attackers also threatened his family members.
The group of students also asked him to remove his trousers, and upon refusal they further physically assaulted him. Following the assault, Bansal filed a complaint in which he detailed the circumstances leading up to the attack on him. Bansal has named several of the attackers- Mustneer, Umar, Abhishekt, Imadh, Saif Ali Khan, and Sohail- in his complaint with details of their respective actions during the assault.
In his complaint, Bansal said that he cited references from Islamic scriptures during a private chat with one of his friends from 1st year BA-LLB course, Dipasha Sharma. The girl shared his messages with her Muslim friends who, subsequently, thrashed him on November 1.
Video and photographic evidence of the assault has also been submitted to the police. Following the complaint, the Cyberabad Police said in a tweet, “In the incident reported at IBS Institute, A case was registered on 11.11.2022 by Shankarpally PS, against the culprits under the provisions of 307, 342, 450, 323, 506, R/W 149, IPC and Sec 4(I),(II), and (III) of the Prohibition of Raising Act of 2011. The action is being taken.”
