The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a Muslim man with links with the terror outfit Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The terrorist identified as Sabauddin Azmi alias Dilawar Khan was planning an IED blast on Independence Day. Azmi was arrested from his home in the Amilo area of Azamgarh district and brought to the ATS headquarters in Lucknow for interrogation.

As per the statement given by the police:

We received information that a person in Mubarakpur of Azamgarh district, who is influenced by the ISIS ideology through his associates, is spreading the jihadi ideology through WhatsApp and other social media applications. He is also encouraging others to join the terrorist organization.

The police investigation revealed after scanning Azmi’s mobile data, that he had joined the Telegram channel “Al-Saqr Media” created by ISIS. The interrogation further revealed that Azmi came in touch with a person named Bilal in 2018, who used to talk about Jihad and the action being taken on the Mujahids in Kashmir. It was Bilal who gave Azmi the number of Musa alias Khattab Kashmiri; who is a member of ISIS. Following this Azmi came in touch with the Islamic terrorist group.

The UP Police has registered against Sabauddin Azmi under sections 121A, 122, and 123 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Arms Act.
