The Jain community across the country is protesting against the recent decision of the Jharkhand and the Centre government that declared Sammed Shikharji, the most important pilgrimage site of the Jains, as a tourist destination.
One such protest was organized by the Jain Navyuvak Mandal Dungarpuron 11 December under the aegis of the Sammed Shikharji Bachao Andolan. A general assembly was held in front of the District Collectorate, where members of the community presented memoranda of appeal. The World Jain Organization has also given a call for protests to protect the pilgrimage site’s individuality and sacredness.
“Any attempt to hurt the Jain community’s religious sentiments will not be tolerated. We are 500 individuals now; if the decision is not brought back then 50,000 members would be on the streets,” said Dilip Jain, President of the Jain Navyuvak Mandal.
