On Sunday, reports emerged that some of the walls in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus were defaced with anti-Hindu slogans including ‘Bhagwa Jalega‘ (Saffron will burn) slogans.
In a video going viral online, it is seen that several walls on the JNU campus were defaced with slogans like ‘Bhagwa Jalega’ (saffron will burn), ‘Free Kashmir’, and ‘IOK’ (Indian Occupied Kashmir)’. These anti-Hindu and anti-India slogans were found written in the School of Language Literature at the university.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has written a letter to the JNU administration demanding an inquiry into the incident. “Being a student organisation, we are gravely concerned about the frequent anti-Bharat slogan-writing incidents on the JNU campus. Yesterday, some students captured pictures of slogans like ‘Indian-Occupied Kashmir’, ‘Free Kashmir’, ‘Bhagwa Jalega’, etc. on the School of Languages building wall,” the ABVP said in the letter.
Meanwhile, the objectionable slogans written on the walls of JNU have been whitewashed. ABVP has demanded that such people should be identified and action should be taken because this is a serious matter and attempts are being made again to malign the image of JNU.
