Karnataka: 15-year-old school boy dies of cardiac arrest minutes after finishing second in race

In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old boy collapsed and died of cardiac arrest minutes after finishing second in a relay race. The incident occurred in Chikkathotlakere of Karnataka’s Tumkur.

The boy named Bheemashankar was part of his school’s team that secured the runner-up position. They were returning from the event after the race concluded when the boy suddenly collapsed. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead.

Doctors confirmed the cause of death as cardiac arrest. Bheemashankar’s father filed a complaint with the Kora police station. His body was handed over to his parents after a postmortem.

Bheemashankar was a student in the 10th class at Beladhara Rural High School. He was part of a 12-member team. The school’s headmaster, Nagaraju, told the TOI that our team secured the second position in the relay that ended at 5.45 p.m. on Thursday. After the race, the teacher asked the students to take their bags and get into the vehicle to return to their village. Bhimashankar took his bag but suddenly fell down around 6 o’clock in the evening.
