On October 24, the Shivamogga police increased security in the town after a 25-year-old man named Prakash was beaten by three assailants shouting anti-RSS slogans.
According to the police, the assailants arrived on bikes, attacked Prakash with stones, and shouted anti-Sangh and anti-Hindu slogans.
The victim, Prakash, said the attackers were not locals, adding he had recently attended an event on V D Savarkar.
The victim said the attack happened when he walked back to his house from the bus stop.
“Two men started hitting me with their hands, then stones and other things, and kicked me, they used some derogatory words against RSS and activists, while one was on the bike…I fell to the ground, and they still attacked me, but somehow I got up, they hit me in my face and then on my head which led to bleeding, I somehow ran towards my home nearby, but they came chasing and attacked me with stones. As soon as my mother opened the door, I ran in,” Prakash said.
Meanwhile, Shivamogga SP GK Mithun Kumar assured the public that police were closely monitoring the situation and that it was under control. The people who attacked Prakash will not be spared, the police official said.
“The guilty will be punished…the CCTV visuals are being looked into. We have some suspicions, but can’t reveal as the investigation is on,” he said.
Earlier in February this year, a Hindu man named Harsha was hacked to death by Salim and Abdulla in Shivamogga for writing against hijab in schools. Later NIA mentioned in its charge sheet that hatred against the Hindu community people was the reason behind the attack.
