Two Hindu youth were stabbed by Muslims in Shivamogga of Karnataka on August 15, 2022. 20-year-old Prem Singh was targeted when he was standing in front of his house. Singh has been admitted to the Meggan hospital in Shivamogga. 27-year-old Praveen, who is a shop owner in the Gandhi Bazar area was closing his shop and returning home when he was stabbed. The incident took place after a row erupted over a poster of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar put up by the Hindu organizations at Ameer Ahmed circle on the occasion of Independence Day.

Violent clashes erupted between the Islamists and Bajrang Dal in Shivamogga after the Muslims in the town objected to the poster of revolutionary and Hindutva ideologue, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also popularly referred to as Veer Savarkar. Muslims demanded to put posters of the 18th-century Muslim ruler of Mysore Tipu Sultan, following which the clashes took place.

The police have arrested all the four accused of stabbing. As per the statement given by the ADGP Law & Order, Alok Kumar:

All 4 people involved in the alleged stabbing have now been arrested. One of the accused – Nadeem is said to have been involved in the 2016 riot as well. Another man, identified as Jabiullah is said to have attacked the police when they went to arrest him at around 3 am this morning. During the interrogation, it will be checked whether all accused have links to any organizations or not.

The ADGP added:

We are telling people to not come out unnecessarily. We’ll seize the accused properties, we will inform the same to DC. We have deployed enough police personnel. We already have 15 platoons and have also asked for more. The situation is under control as of now.

Police have registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the four arrested men.
