Hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal suggested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would “retire” at 75 and Home Minister Amit Shah would step into his role, Shah said that Modi would “finish his term”.

“I want to say this to Arvind Kejriwal and company and INDI alliance that do not need to feel happy about Narendra Modi turning 75. No such thing is mentioned in the BJP’s constitution. Modi ji is going to complete this term and Modi ji will continue to lead the country into the future. There is no confusion within the BJP; they want to create confusion,” Shah said while speaking at the Hyderabad BJP office.

“INDI alliance leaders know we are going to cross 400 seats and Modi ji will become PM for the third time, which is why they are spreading such misconceptions. I want to clarify that there is no such provision in BJP’s constitution. Modi ji will lead till 2029 and Modi ji will lead the upcoming elections. There is no good news for the INDI alliance,” the senior BJP leader later said while speaking to ANI.

Earlier in the day Kejriwal said, “These people (BJP) ask the INDIA bloc, who is going to be your PM? Who is your candidate? I ask the BJP, who is going to be your PM? He (Modi) is turning 75 years old next September. He is the one who made the rule that party members who turn 75 years old have to retire. He has to retire next year. So I ask BJP, who is your PM pick? Who will fulfil Modi’s guarantees? Will Amit Shah do it? When you go out to vote, remember, you are voting for Amit Shah, not for Modi.”

He also claimed that Yogi Adityanath’s continuation could also come under threat. “The Prime Minister is on a dangerous mission. He wants one nation, one leader. He wants all the opposition leaders imprisoned and the political careers of all the BJP challengers finished. Tejashwi Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan, Uddhav Thackeray will be put in jail,” the Delhi CM said.

“Politics of LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Dr Raman Singh have been finished. Whose turn will it be next? It is Yogi Adityanath’s. If the BJP returns to power, he will be removed from the post of Chief Minister within two months. Only one dictator will remain,” he added.
