Kerala court acquits maulvi of rape charges in POCSO case as victim boy turns hostile

A Krerala court recently acquitted a maulvi of charges of raping a minor boy. The special POCSO court observed that there may have been an out-of-court settlement. According to the case registered at Mayyil Police Station, the Maulvi identified as Rafeeque allegedly laid himself over an 11-year-old boy with sexual intent in his mosque-attached bedroom and accordingly, he was booked under the POCSO Act. As per a report by News18, till the end of the process under the section, there was evidence against the accused and he could not produce any supporting evidence so as to effectuate his acquittal. However, at the time of recording testimonies and cross-examination, the survivor turned hostile.
