The Kerala Director General of Police, Anil Kanth directed Thiruvananthapuram Police Commissioner Sparjan Kumar to register a case against the crew of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ for portraying the state as a safe heaven for terrorists. The order was issued on November 8, 2022. As per reports, the inquiry cell of Kerala police conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter. The inquiry report has been sent to the Kerala DGP.
Kerala DGP’s order was based on the complaint sent to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan by journalist Aravindakshan BR, asking to ban the movie. Citing the reason that the movie shows the state of Kerala in a bad light, Aravindakshan has filed a similar complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Prasoon Joshi, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Aravindakshan has asked to ban the movie unless director Sudipto Sen and producer Vipul Amrutal Shah submit documents confirming the veracity of the information present.
The movie ‘The Kerala Story’ is based on the events in which Muslim women from Kerala went missing and joined the Islamic terrorist outfit ISIS. The recently released teaser of the movie features actress Adah Sharma wearing hijab, who narrates her account. The makers have said that the movie is inspired by true events.
