Interacting with the media ahead of the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, Chief Minister of Assam Hemanta Biswa Sharma outlined the need to rewrite History as Left historians have distorted it.
“History needs to be rewritten because Left historians have distorted and made it appear that Mughal emperors conquered entire India. They never conquered northeast India. Assam and south India,” the Chief Minister said.
It was a Left conspiracy to project that the Mughals defeated the entire India, Sarma said.
It is sad that Indian rulers and dynasties from Assam and also in South and other parts of the country like Cholas have been ignored and neglected in Indian history books penned by the Left Historians, Sarma further said.
“It is sad that today I have to be the first Chief Minister in Assam to speak on these lines on our heroes like Lachit Barphukan,” Sarma added. He further said that all the Chief Ministers in the northeast region have contacted NCERT to include local heroes in all seven northeastern states in the school curriculum.
The Chief Minister was interacting with the media and reviewed the preparations for the forthcoming 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Lachit Barphukan to be held in the national capital from November 23 to 25.
Earlier, in September 2018, on the question of rewriting history, then Union Minister for Human Resource and Development (HRD) Prakash Javadekar had said, “We have not rewritten a single chapter in the last four years.”
