On November 12, Priyank Kanoongo, the Chairman of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), informed that a case of religious conversion of three Hindu kids to Islam in a children’s home has come to their notice.
“During an inspection of a child welfare centre in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, a case has come to light where the manager changed the names and religions of 3 kids. The matter of conversion of kids is serious and the district administration has been instructed to take action against manager Haseen Parvez,” Kanoongo said in a tweet.
The three siblings, who are minors, were renamed and converted to Islam by the centre’s manager Haseen Parvez. He also claimed himself to be the guardian of the children and put his name on their Aadhaar cards.
As per the Hindu kids, their names were different before coming to the children’s home but later on, the manager changed their names.
During the COVID-19 lockdown in the year 2020, all three minors were separated from their parents in the Mandideep area. When found in Bhopal they were sent to Raisen Child Welfare Committee by the Bhopal Child Welfare Committee. As the parents of the children could not be located, they were handed over to the children’s home in Gauharganj run by Navjeevan Samajik Sanstha. It was decided that they will stay at this centre until their parents can be located.
An FIR has been filed against the centre’s manager Haseen Parvez. This child centre is a government-funded private entity. Kanoongo also stated that the manager will be restricted from operating a similar facility in the future.
