An Indian married woman, Anju, who had legally travelled to a remote village in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has converted to Islam and married her Pakistani lover Nasrullah. Following her conversion to Islam, she now goes by the name Fatima.
Notably, Anju was already married while in India. Anju’s husband Arvind, who is in Rajasthan, was hopeful that his wife would return soon. She got married to Arvind in 2007, and they had been living together since then. They have a 15-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son.
As per reports, Fatima and Nasrullah did Nikah at the district courts in Upper Dir. A video widely shared on social media shows Fatima and Nasrullah holding hands and visiting scenic mountainous spots in the region. They became Facebook friends in 2019.
“Nasrullah and Anju’s marriage was solemnised today and proper Nikah was performed after she converted to Islam,” a senior officer at Moharrar City Police Station in the Upper Dir district Muhammad Wahab told PTI.
According to police, the couple appeared in the district court in the presence of family members of Nasrullah, police personnel, and lawyers.
Fatima told the court that she has willingly come to Pakistan and is very happy.
