Members of the Meitei community in Mizoram reportedly began to leave the state on Saturday after former Mizo militants issued a warning in the wake of the viral video from Manipur.
On Friday, the Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA), formerly known as the Mizo National Front Militants, issued a letter asking Meiteis to leave Mizoram “for their own safety” amid “anger among Mizo youth” over the incident. The statement, written in Mizo, states that the sentiments of Mizo people were deeply hurt by the violence against the Zo ethnic community in Manipur and that it is no longer safe for the Meitei people to continue living in Manipur.
On Saturday, the Mizoram government reassured the Meitei community living in the state of safety and security. State home commissioner and secretary H Lalengmawia, on Saturday, commenced a meeting with leaders of the Meitei community and assured them of their safety and security, according to an official statement.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government is planning to airlift people from Mizoram by special ATR flights operating between Aizawl-Imphal and Aizawl-Silchar.
Mizos and Kukis are ethnically related.
