Retired IPS and Padma Bhushan recipient Julio Ribeiro on Tuesday claimed that the minorities in India may have to face what Hindus and Christians are facing in Pakistan.

“The Hindus and Christians in Pakistan are really living in fear as second-class citizens, which may happen here (in India). That is what I fear,” Ribeiro said. However, he said the country will not see a war-like situation like that in Gaza.

Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with the Christian community on the occasion of Christmas, Ribeiro said that the Prime Minister was trying to woo a big Christian community in Kerala.

“One of the bishops has fallen for it, so I feel because one has fallen others perhaps may fall… let’s see what he (the PM) is trying to do… even among our friends – and most of them are not Christians – they have begun understanding that many of the things he (Modi) said were only for votes. Of course, he will get some votes. There is hope that his Christmas message is probably.. a change of heart. If it is, it will be a good thing. But I doubt it because the whole intention is to have a ‘saffronised Pakistan’,” he further said.
