Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga said that India should negotiate with military authorities in Myanmar to restore peace in the neighboring nation. He said:

We received requests from some quarters in Myanmar that India should broker peace in the coup-hit country. This is a golden chance for our country to resume the peace mission we have begun in the past in order to restore peace in the neighboring country.

“During our visit to Delhi, our main subject was the Myanmar political issue. All the Central leaders whom I have met, including the President, were concerned about the Myanmar political crisis”, the Mizoram CM said. He further stated:

I told the central leaders that India should take a fatherly step and resume the trade we have already started in the past in order to restore peace in Myanmar.

It seems that peace cannot be established in Myanmar due to communication gaps between stakeholders, If India plays its role in the right time, restoring peace in the neighboring state is possible

Mizoram CM further added:

I have also urged the Central leaders during his visit to the national capital that India should beef up security and intelligence units along the Mizoram border with Bangladesh and Myanmar to check the potential influx of Rohingya Muslims from both the two neighboring countries.

What we fear most is not the Rohingya Muslims entering the state as refugees but as terrorists, because rich Arab countries and Muslim terrorist groups can help them due to the atrocities and expulsion they faced in Myanmar.

More than 30, 000 citizens of Myanmar, including fourteen lawmakers took refuge in the border districts of Mizoram after the military coup by the Myanmar army in February 2021. Mizoram government has so far provided rupees 380 lakh as relief to the Myanmar nationals. In December 2021, the Mizoram government constituted a high-level committee chaired by the state Home Minister Lalchamliana to monitor the Myanmar refugee crisis in the state. In July 2022, the Mizoram government informed that 30,316 Myanmar nationals, including 11,798 children and 10,047 women, have taken refuge in various parts of Mizoram. It was further informed that the government had done the profiling of 30,299 Myanmar nationals and issued identity cards to over 30,000 refugees.
