The death toll in the hoarding collapse incident in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area has climbed to 14 while 74 people are injured, civic officials said on Tuesday morning.
Earlier on Monday, the 100-foot-tall illegal billboard fell at a petrol pump in Ghatkopar during dust storms and unseasonal rains. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, search and rescue operations were still underway at the Chheda Nagar-based petrol pump.
Of the 74 people rescued from the accident site, 31 people have been discharged from Rajawadi Hospital and 35 are undergoing treatment while the condition of one of them is critical, an official said. Meanwhile, eight more injured are undergoing treatment at three private and civic-run hospitals.
NDRF has deployed two teams for the operation being carried out with Mumbai Fire Brigade and other agencies.
Meanwhile, an under-construction metal parking tower collapsed on a road amid gusty wind and rain in the Wadala area on Monday, leaving three persons injured, an official said. As per the reports, at least eight to ten vehicles were damaged. The incident occurred near Shreeji Tower at Barkat Ali Naka on the busy Wadala- Antop Hill Road after 4 pm.
