A Hindu temple in United Kingdom’s Smethwick was attacked by Muslims on the evening of September 20, 2022. Crackers and bottles were reportedly thrown inside the Durga Bhawan Hindu Centre by the Muslim mob who was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ slogans. Threats and abuses were hurled by the Muslim mob toward the Hindus. As reported in the British media: 

Around 200 people, mainly Muslims, have arrived outside the Durga Bhawan Hindu Centre in Smethwick, West Mids – one bottle has been thrown although the situation has calmed slightly for now. There is a growing police presence. 

As per reports, Sadhvi Ritambhara, founder of Param Shakti Peeth and Vatsalyagram was supposed to preach at the Hindu Centre, but the event was canceled due to the poor health of the Sadhvi. The Hindu Centre is located in the Birmingham region of the UK. Almost 10,000 Muslims from Birmingham arrived in Leicester following the Pakistan cricket team’s victory on September 4 and started violent attacks on Hindus.

Hindus in the UK are facing constant attacks by Muslims following the Asia Cup India-Pakistan cricket match on 28 August. A Hindu temple was vandalized in Leicester last week and a saffron flag was desecrated by Muslims. According to reports, the Muslim mobs tried to keep Hindus hostage, including children. The report added that cars and other Hindu-owned properties were vandalized by the Muslim mob. It was reported earlier that in one of the letters written by the Hindu community of Leicester to the local MP, it was informed that Muslims used the Islamic term “Mushriks” for Hindus while attacking them, which is a derogatory term used for pagan idol worshippers. 

Meanwhile, Leicestershire Police have made multiple arrests in the anti-Hindu violence in the city. “A total of 47 arrests have been made so far”, Leicestershire Police informed on Twitter on September 19 regarding the anti-Hindu violence. 21 years old Muslim youth named Adam Yusuf received a suspended jail sentence in the Leicester anti-Hindu violence case. Yusuf had admitted possessing a knife at a march on Sunday. Yusuf was given a sentence of a year in prison and suspended for 18 months after confessing to carrying a knife. This was the second conviction in the case of Leicester anti-Hindu violence. Earlier, 20-year-old Amos Noronha, was sentenced to 10 months in jail for the anti-Hindu violence.
