J.P. Nadda, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emphasized the significance of the 2023 electoral calendar, which includes nine Assembly elections leading up to the 2024 General Election, and called on party members to ensure the BJP’s victory in all contests.
He made these remarks during the BJP’s national executive meeting held in New Delhi on January 16-17. According to former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Nadda urged party leaders to work towards ensuring the BJP does not lose in any of the nine State polls scheduled for this year.
Approximately 350 leaders from various states, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and other senior members of the party, were present at the national executive meeting. Modi arrived at the meeting in Central Delhi after participating in a road show organized by the party to celebrate their recent victory in Gujarat. Despite recent electoral losses in Nadda’s home state of Himachal Pradesh, he emphasized the importance of the party’s efforts to secure victory in states where they are currently in opposition and to strengthen their hold on states where they are currently in power.
In his address, J.P. Nadda highlighted the representation of Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes in the BJP governments in States and the Centre, as well as in constitutional positions such as Governor. He also emphasized the importance of the party’s efforts in the upcoming assembly elections in various states, including Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Telangana.
Nadda credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for expanding the party’s voter base and highlighted the country’s economic growth, including India’s status as the world’s fifth-largest economy, the second-largest manufacturer of mobile phones, and the third-largest manufacturer in the auto sector. He also mentioned the government’s efforts to empower the poor through various welfare schemes, such as the distribution of free grains.
