Hyderabad Police has been asked by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to take action against the slogan of Sar Tan se Juda shouted by Muslim children against the Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh. The slogan was reportedly shouted in the videos which surfaced after protests erupted in Hyderabad after Singh published a video on Islamic history. NCPCR has written a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad asking to register an FIR and produce the children before the Child Welfare Committee. Further, the NCPCR has asked the Hyderabad Police to take action within seven days by submitting the action-taken report, along with a copy of the FIR, the statements of the children and their parents, and relevant records.
The letter said:
It seems that the children have been influenced and used in the protests as political tools. In view of the above, the Commission deems it appropriate to take Suo-moto cognizance… since there is a prima-facie violation of relevant provisions under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and relevant provisions of laws.
The Commission thereby requests your good offices to investigate the matter by lodging an FIR against the perpetrators at once. Further, the children who are seen in the video should be identified and produced before the Child Welfare Committee… An Action Taken Report along with copy of FIR, statement of children and their parents, and relevant records may be submitted to the Commission within 07 days of receipt of this letter.
On August 22, 2022, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Goshamahal, T Raja Singh published a video as a reaction to the show of the stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui organized in Hyderabad; who used derogatory language for the Hindu deities in the past. Faruqiui had also mocked the burning of 59 Hindu pilgrims by a Muslim mob in Godhra in 2002. This was followed by huge protests by Muslims across Hyderabad, in which beheading calls for Singh was given by shouting the Sar Tan se Juda slogans. YouTube later deleted the video. Multiple FIRs were filed against Singh by the Muslims, who were arrested on August 23, 2022. Soon after the arrest, Singh was suspended by the BJP.
Singh was granted bail by the Nampally metropolitan magistrate court on the same of the arrest. The court observed that the Hyderabad police had not followed the proper procedure, which includes the issuance of prior notice before the arrest.
