The Supreme Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the National Testing Agency (NTA) amid allegations about the NEET-UG 2024 and said, “Even if there is .001% negligence on the part of anyone. It should be thoroughly dealt with.”
“Imagine a person who has played fraud with the system becoming a doctor. Such a person would be deleterious to the society and system. Children study hard to get through NEET,” the top court said.
“We expect timely action from you (NTA). Let us hear the petitions on July 8,” the apex court added.
“Children have prepared for the exams, we cannot forget their labour,” the court observed.
During the hearing of the petition today, the Centre said no opinion should be formed on the allegations till a proper response is filed in the matter.
However, the counsel representing the petitioners said that hard work of the students cannot be forgotten. “Just imagine a doctor treating who has passed like this … It needs to be checked how many mobiles were used etc.,” the top court was told.
The NEET-UG examination was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centres across 571 cities in India. The results were declared on June 4. However, after the results were declared, the parents and teachers expressed doubts over grace marks awarded to 1,563 students.
