TCS, an IT giant, has ended permanent remote working for its employees and is requiring them to return to office desks. Those who were previously working 100% remotely will now have to come back to the office according to their role’s needs. TCS informed its employees of this decision in an official mail, stating that senior leaders have been working from TCS offices for a while and customers are also visiting offices. The mail also stated that managers will now roster employees to work from the office for at least 3 days a week.
The Indian tech giant, TCS, has officially ruled out 100% remote work for all its employees. In an interview with Financial Express, the COO, N. Ganapathy Subramaniam, stated that there is a greater realization that more things get done when employees come to the office, especially for those who have joined the company in the last two years. He also mentioned that employees want to return to their desks for work, but the company will continue taking precautionary measures and will not make working from the office mandatory. Instead, TCS aims to implement a hybrid model of work, allowing for flexibility for employees but encouraging them to come to the office more often for learning and sharing opportunities.
In May 2020, during the first wave of Covid-19, TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan introduced the 25×25 model, which set a plan for the company to call back 25% of its workforce back to the office by 2025. The company is also considering having employees who joined TCS after 2020 to work from the office, as they have never physically visited the office. This move is also seen as an opportunity to welcome a significant number of new colleagues who have joined the company over the last two years. This information was communicated to employees in an official mail sent last year.
