The Assam Police on August 25, 2022, arrested another Muslim man linked with the Islamic terror outfits Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). This is the third arrest made by the Assam Police in the case. As informed by the police:
The person identified as Abdus Suahan has been arrested from the Jogighopa police station area of Bongaigaon district.
Assam Police last week made two more arrests related to AQIS on August 20, 2022. Two Imams named Abdus Subhan and Jalaluddin Sheikh were arrested in lower Assam for having links with the AQIS and ABT. Subhan is the Imam of Tinkunia Shantipur Mosque and Sheikh is the Imam of Tilapara Natun Mosque in Goalpara district. Assam police have said that Suahan is closely linked with the two Imams.
As per Assam police, six Islamic terrorists from Bangladesh associated with the AQIS came to Assam a few years back as Imams. A large number of Muslims in Assam were recruited by them in the Islamic terror outfit. The Islamic terrorists have targeted the small sandy islands known as Char in Assam, as a large number of them are dominated by the Muslim community. Two of the Islamic terrorists of Bangladesh have stayed in the Char regions of Goalpara district for the last 2-3 years and indoctrinated a significant population of the region.
Earlier on August 17, 2022, West Bengal police arrested two Islamists in North 24 Parganas district for having links with the AQIS.
