Pakistani presenter Zainab Abbas, part of the ICC digital team covering the ODI World Cup, left India on Monday after facing backlash on social media over her old hateful anti-Hindu posts.
Zainab left India from Hyderabad where she was deputed to cover Pakistan’s three World Cup games in the city. She was present at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad for Pakistan’s World Cup opener against the Netherlands on October 6.
Her old anti-Hindu posts on X, earlier known as Twitter, had gone viral after she announced that she would be covering the ICC event in India.
In one of her posts, she used the cow piss jibe against Hindus. “..true it does Man went Delhi, and it smells of cow piss. Oops, that’s their maa Kaali maa,” the post reads.
“This 120 crore population can’t produce one fast bowler. Eat some f*c*ing meat u shud shakaharis,” one of her another tweets reads.
The posts were deleted, and she had changed her handle years ago, according to OpIndia.
As speculation on social media intensified over her departure from India in the middle of the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said that Zainab was not deported from the host country.
“Zainab has not been deported; she has left for personal reasons,” an ICC spokesperson told PTI.
