According to a new alert from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) activists may target foremost Hindu organization leaders in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.

Soon after the ban was imposed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, activists of  PFI and its affiliates used Molotov cocktails to attack the homes and workplaces of leaders and sympathizers of Hindu organizations in different parts of Tamil Nadu.

The Ministry has requested the State government to increase the security of prominent persons who might be the targets of attacks, citing Tamil Nadu’s history of targeted killings of Hindu leaders.

Coimbatore city police on Monday night arrested five Muslim men in connection with a car blast in front of a temple in which one Jamesa Mubin was killed Sunday. As per a report by The Indian Express, Mubin, who died in a blast was earlier questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019 for his connections to a terrorist network linked to Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka. Mubin was already on the watchlist of the Tamil Nadu police as he had tried to set off an explosion a few years ago.
