On November 10, Dera Sacha Sauda follower Pardeep Singh, an accused in the Bargari sacrilege case of 2015, was shot dead in Punjab’s Faridkot district. Pradeep was shot by five unidentified men while he was going to open his shop.
He was accused of the theft of the Guru Granth Sahib from the village of Burj Jawahar Singh Wala in a 2015 sacrilege case.
The killing has been caught in CCTV cameras of the area. The video shows how the assailants arrived at the spot and two of them went inside. After firing all of them fled the spot.
Informing about the incident, Faridkot senior superintendent of police Rajpal Singh said, “So far it appears there were five unidentified men involved in the murder. Police have started an investigation and trying to identify the assailants. We have got some leads and working on it. Following threat assessment, three gunmen were provided to Pardeep and one was with him when the incident took place while others were at his home”.
After the incident took place, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to Twitter and said, “Punjab is a peace-loving state and mutual brotherhood is very strong here. No one will be allowed to disturb peace of Punjab. Police and general administration have been given strict instructions to maintain peace in the state”.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the situation is under control and urged people to maintain peace and harmony in the state. He also asked people not to panic or spread fake news or any hate speech.
Earlier, on November 4 Hindu leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead while he was taking part in a protest outside a temple.
