The Supreme Court on Friday awarded life imprisonment to former RJD MP Prabhunath Singh in the 1995 double murder case.
The former MP was convicted on August 18 by the apex court while overturning the orders of the trial court and the Patna High Court, which had acquitted him in the case.
The top court has also directed the Bihar government to pay Rs 10 lakh each as compensation to the families of the deceased.
The case involved the murder of two people on the day of polling for assembly elections in Chapra in Bihar’s Saran district in March 1995.
Singh is currently serving a life sentence in another murder case.
He was reportedly a close associate of RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
