The Supreme Court on Saturday in a special late-night hearing granted interim protection to Teesta Setalvad for seven days and stayed the Gujarat High Court’s order which asked her to surrender immediately in a case of fabrication of evidence in relation to the 2002 Gujarat riots. Setalvad had approached the apex court after the high court rejected her bail plea today.
A three-judge bench of Justices BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, and Dipankar Datta heard Setalvad’s case in a special late-night hearing after an earlier two-judge bench could not come to an agreement.
The top court had granted interim bail to Setalvad in September 2022, after which, she was released from Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail. She had approached the Gujarat High Court for regular bail, which was rejected by the court on Saturday.
