A Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the validity of amendments made by Tamil Nadu to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act), thereby permitting Jallikattu. “When the legislature has declared that Jallikattu is part of cultural heritage of TN state, judiciary cannot take a different view. Legislature is best suited to decide that,” the apex court said. The top court also upheld laws allowing Kambala and bull cart racing in Karnataka and Maharashtra respectively.
