Telangana Minister for Finance and Health T Harish Rao on Thursday said the state government is considering extending financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to members of minority communities.

“Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has utmost respect for minority communities. Mahmood Ali was made Minister twice in the Telangana government. We are implementing Shadi Mubark for Muslims,” Rao said while addressing ‘minorities’ in the meeting at Hyderabad’s Jala Vihar.

The state government will issue orders to this effect in a couple of days, he added.

“The BRS government has sanctioned Rs 2,200 crore for minority welfare in the current fiscal year. The total budgetary allocation for minorities made by the previous Congress governments in the last ten years was lesser than this,” the Minister further said.

Enlisting the schemes introduced by the BRS government for the development of Muslims in Telangana, Rao said that minority students could avail of a loan of Rs 20 lakh for overseas education. Ramzan gifts, Dawat-e-Iftar, and guesthouse for pilgrims from Telangana state in Ajmer being built at Rs 5 crore were some of the schemes brought by the BRS government in the last nine years for the welfare of Muslims, the Minister said.

Rao also said that it was CM K Chandrashekar Rao who demanded that the Centre hold NEET in Urdu medium.
