UGC launches SheRNI to empower women scientists, faculty members

The University Grants Commission’s (UGC), Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre has launched the She Research Network in India (SheRNI). The initiative aims to ensure that women scientists are represented equally across various research domains.

According to the UGC, the SheRNI website would connect more than 81,000 profiles of Indian women working in science and research across diverse fields. “SheRNI confronts stereotypes and will inspire the next generation of female scientists, researchers and faculty members,” UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar was quoted as saying by the UGC.

Kumar also said that “UGC wants to ensure representation and visibility for the contributions of women scientists and faculty members, recognising them as one of the core pillars of a developed India through their research outcomes and scalable solutions.”
“She Research Network in India (SheRNI) is the expert profile network system that connects and leverages the knowledge, skills, and expertise of women across various fields in India. This system aims to empower women by providing opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing. The objectives of this project are to create a national-level expert profile system for women faculty members and facilitate the exchange of expertise, insights, and experiences among women experts in diverse fields,” the SheRNI website said.
“The system supports the women scientists/faculty members to build a strong professional network that fosters collaboration, mentorship, and career advancement opportunities. The SheRNI expert network system serves as a dynamic platform for women professionals to connect, collaborate, and empower each other, ultimately contributing to the advancement of women in various fields,” it added.
