The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the UP Police arrested an operative of the Islamic terror outfit ISIS from Chattisgarh’s Durg on Tuesday.

“Wajihuddin, who was allegedly associated with ISIS, holds a PhD degree in Public Administration. On the direction of his handlers, he was planning a major attack in the country to fulfill his terrorist plans,” said a police officer.

Wajihuddin had completed his PhD from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and was working for the ISIS even as he disguised himself as a student.

The arrest of Wajihuddin came two days after the ATS, in Aligarh, arrested two Muslims—Abdullah Arsalan (27) and Maaz Bin Tariq (25)—with ISIS links.

The police said they all three were taking instructions from their IS handlers to carry out terror activities in the state.

The ATS also recovered materials related to the Islamic terror outfits IS and Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent from them.
