More than 30 Hindus have been booked in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzzafarnagar for allegedly burning an effigy of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya who had made derogatory remarks against Hinduism. The police on Saturday said that they were booked for alleging burning effigy of Maurya and violation of prohibitory orders.
Police have lodged a case against several Hindus and named eight of them, including Hindu Kranti Sena general secretary Manoj Saini, under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
As per the FIR lodged by Sub-Inspector Devki Nandan, they allegedly took out a procession without permission and burnt the effigy of Maurya while prohibitory orders were in force on Friday.
Hindus were protesting against Maurya’s derogatory comments against Hinduism.
Earlier on August 28, Maurya had said that Hinduism is a hoax used to trap marginalised communities within the framework of Brahmin religion.
Maurya on July 27 had claimed that the sacred Hindu pilgrimage site, Badrinath Temple, was once a ‘Buddhist monastery’.
Earlier in the year, he had said that the holy Hindu epic “Ramcharitmanas” is rubbish and parts of it should be banned.
