A Christian conversion racket was busted by the police in Azamgarh of Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, the accused evangelists were trying to lure villagers by organizing a birthday party on 30 July 2022. The event was organized at Vishnu Nagar ward of Maharajganj area. The event was planned by evangelist Indrakala and her aides Subhagi Devi, Sadhana, Samata, Anita and Sunita.

Apart from promising monetary benefits, the evangelists assured the villagers of getting rid of possessions of ghosts and evil spirits after conversion to Christianity. The police have seized Christian religious books and pamphlets in large numbers from the spot.

The accused evangelists were booked under section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC along with 3/5 of UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion Ordinance.
